Aintree University Hospital upgrade plans receive green light

Published: 20-Mar-2012

Liverpool City Council has approved plans for £20 million ($31.38 million) of new facilities in Aintree University Hospital in Liverpool, UK.

The project has been designed by Taylor Young and will be developed by BAM Construction. Work will involve upgrades to the facility’s accident and emergency, critical care, cardiology and fracture clinic units. The accident and emergency wing will be extended and will comprise new see-and-treat rooms following the makeover. The critical care wing will undergo an expansion and will be fitted with an extra 24 beds.

The fracture clinic will be relocated into a new purpose-built department as part of the project. In addition, cardiology will be centralised to enhance access between the department and coronary care.

The project forms part of a long term hospital-wide development and will be completely self-funded by the trust. Construction is expected to have a duration of two years.
