The contest named ‘Architectural Design Ideas’ has invited architects and designers for expressions of interest to be part of this terminal project. Architects from 68 countries in all continents have shown interest in participating in the international terminal design contest.

The focal point of the design contest is to explore design concepts, both architectural and functional, that best capture the aspirations and brand identity of airBaltic. Designers should aim at creating a unique identity for both the airline and the city of Riga.

The brief is to create a terminal that has the capacity to handle around seven to eight million annual passengers in the first phase, and 14 million passengers eventually.

airBaltic plans to develop the winning first stage design and to engage with the winning team in a subsequent second stage with a view towards final delivery of the terminal complex. The submitted architectural design concepts will go through a thorough judgement process by a jury of internationally recognised professionals, local dignitaries and airBaltic management. The winner will be recognised with an award prize of €100,000 ($127,000).
