The west side and north end zone of the 1930-built Amon G. Carter Stadium will receive upgrades, funded by donor support. The work that is designed to transform the 80-year-old stadium into a modern collegiate football stadium will begin immediately following TCU's final home game on 13 November 2010, and be fully completed in 2012.

The project is the first major renovation to the TCU stadium since 1956, when the upper deck was added. Global architectural design firm HKS Sports & Entertainment Group will oversee the renovation project, which is designed to enhance the fan experience by improving stadium accessibility, seating and views of the playing field.

The project consists of: upgraded and new concession stands for better access and reduced wait times; elevators and escalators to better facilitate stadium accessibility and crowd flow; a new, raised seating bowl on the west and north end for enhanced field views; upgraded and additional men’s and women’s restrooms; suites, club seating and lounges on the west side of the stadium; and a new press box.

According to Dan Phillips, AIA, senior designer with HKS, the design references the 1930s style of Southwestern art deco prevalent throughout Fort Worth and the surrounding region. Amon G. Carter Stadium’s original design intent incorporated this architectural style, which was not completely realized. The new design blends seamlessly with the Meyer–Martin Athletic Complex, the TCU campus and the City of Fort Worth.

Suites and lounges will also reflect the Southwestern art deco as well as the graphics and way-finding signage throughout the stadium. HKS has created a unique look and feel for the renovated stadium by integrating the university colours. In addition, the north concourse will mirror the south concourse and fans will be able to see the field while walking through either concourse.

The north side of the stadium will be transformed into three tiers of seating. The second tier and upper deck will be divided by 24 suites. About 2,500 club seats will be added as part of a more than 20,000 square feet club level, and a new press box. The west end zone renovation will include a raised second-tier of seating and nine suites.

After an initial gift of $15 million in January 2010 from the Amon G. Carter Foundation, it took eight months for TCU to raise the total to $105 million.
