Anza library in San Francisco opens after renovation

Published: 20-Jun-2011

The Anza library in San Francisco has been reopened after a $7.7 million renovation project that lasted two years.

The library refurbishment has been designed by Library Design Studio. Work at the public library included restoration of its various features such as its stenciled ceiling. The facility has been equipped with advanced technology post refurbishment. The facility is now compatible with ADA accessibility requirements and has also received seismic improvements.

The revamped library features extensive addition at the side and back portion to allow room for accessibility upgrades, a new elevator as well as restrooms. The facility's community meeting room has received a facelift and now features new windows, flooring and additional area to conduct technology classes and programmes.

The refurbished building incorporates a spacious children’s room, a new section for teens as well as a large reading space. It is also encompassed by new landscaping including a bucolic courtyard off the community room. In addition, the entire overhaul is in keeping with sustainability norms.

The project has been financed by a $105.9 million bond measure passed by city voters in 2000 in addition to $500,000 coming from private funds raised by the Friends of the San Francisco Public Library for furniture, fixtures and equipment.
