Arthur Ashe Stadium to get a new roof for US Open
Published: 16-Sep-2009
US Open officials have announced plans to integrate a roof over the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.
The idea is in the planning stage and no official decision has been made yet. This year events have been disrupted due to rain, which ended in a one day extension of the match.
The roofing is estimated to cost a $100 million; the 23,000 seating capacity of the stadium is the major issue which has led to the increased cost. There are alternative plans to build a roof over the Louis Armstrong Stadium or the Grandstand Stadium, rather than the Arthur Ashe Stadium. Cost analysis of the roof over Arthur Ashe Stadium will help reach the final decision.
As of now, the Australian Open and Wimbledon both feature a roof, while plans are also ripe to establish roofing over the French Open.
