The new mixed-use arena has been designed by German architecture firm GMP and developed by Alpine Bau Deutschland. It has been built for Eurovision song contest 2012 due to be held in the region and possesses a capacity to house a maximum of 25,000. The arena is slated to serve as a longer-term facility.
The building incorporates a crystalline shape and is made in steel. It comprises three independent segments including a membrane façade, the modular stadium and the interior roof. The membrane facade has been equipped with 9500 LED-powered lighting fixtures which will create different moods based on the stage of the event.
