Clemson University dedicates upgraded Rudolph Lee Hall
Published: 16-Apr-2012
Clemson University in South Carolina, US has dedicated the Rudolph Lee Hall after a $31.6 million renovation, restoration and expansion.
McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture has designed the project, in collaboration with Thomas Phifer and Partners of New York. Atlanta's Holder Construction Co. served as the construction manager. The project involved a 55,000 square feet expansion of the hall.
The building imbibes several eco-friendly elements. It offsets all its energy usage with its own renewable energy. It has been equipped with 53 external and internal skylights which maximise natural light penetration. The skylights and window walls of the building have been built to reduce lighting requirements during daytime. The facility also comprises a geothermal heating and cooling system. Further, it sports an energy dashboard which offers real-time data on temperature, humidity, energy and water consumption.
The building has been fitted with a 30,000 square feet sedum roof. It also incorporates pervious paving materials on site to enable stormwater seep into the ground. Among other green features of the property include use of reclaimed building materials, and procuring materials within 500 miles of the project site.
