Commonwealth Stadium renovation plans to be approved

Published: 11-Feb-2013

The House Appropriation and Revenue Committee is expected to approve three big construction projects at the University of Kentucky, including the $110 million Commonwealth Stadium renovation project in the UK.

Design plans for the stadium renovation project have already started, with the project expected to be finished between 2015 and 2016. The stadium expansion would be the largest single project in the plan.

As per initial reports, the expansion would include 16 to 20 private suites, new locker room facilities, upgraded concessions and restrooms, and more amenities for players, recruits and spectators. The private suites would be located in the middle of the field. Commonwealth Stadium currently has 40 suites, with 10 in each corner that were built in 1999.

The House Bill 7 includes 11 projects at six universities. The project is expected to be financed through $275 million in agency bonds and athletics.
