Construction to begin for new terminal at Bob Sikes Airport

Published: 19-Mar-2013

Fixed base operator Emerald Coast Aviation is planning to begin construction on an estimated $600,000 terminal at Bob Sikes Airport in Okaloosa County, Florida by the end of April 2013.

The terminal, designed by Fort Walton Beach’s DC Architects, is expected to be completed within six months once the construction begins.

The terminal will include a 5,600-square-foot single-storey building featuring a reception area, offices for staff, a lounge with a fireplace, a pilots' snooze room with shower, a conference room and an outdoor enclosed courtyard.

The terminal will offer vistas across the airport from large windows, while the open-plan design has omitted a restaurant which was included in the design earlier.

Emerald Coast Aviation will fund the building’s construction, while user fees from Okaloosa County Airports will fund paving of the terminal's parking area.

The terminal will replace a small facility that Emerald Coast Aviation and Sunshine Aero have used for long time. Emerald Coast Aviation will house the Ward family’s aircraft in its own hangar in exchange of the new terminal.
