COX Architecture to design Taiwanese exhibition and convention centre

COX Architecture with offices in Australasia has been selected to design the Kaohsiung Exhibition and Convention Centre in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, which will display a wave-like structure to reflect Kaohsiung's strong relationship with the sea.

Kaohsiung is Taiwan's largest harbour city, and COX Architecture’s proposal mirrors the city’s strong link with sea and the urban transformation, which is currently underway in the city. The architectural team has conceived the Kaohsiung Exhibition and Convention Centre as a wave-like structure befitting the new maritime precinct of Kaohsiung.

The details of the triangulated roof structure features solar collectors and glazing, offering the building the appearance of a giant sculpture sitting along the waterfront within a park setting. The core focus of the design is the creation of a public street that links the city urban fabric to the developing waterfront.

The exhibition space integrated into the building features 1,100 indoor ground floor stands and 400 outdoor stands.

COX Architecture is working in collaboration with Ricky Liu Architects and Associates and Lee Ming Construction in Taiwan. The project is scheduled for mid-2012 completion.
