Crown Plaza hotel in Belgium opens after renovation
Crown Plaza hotel, the first and only five-star hotel of Liege in Belgium has recently opened after five years of renovation, combining modern design and contemporary interiors.
Crown Plaza hotel, also known as Les Comtes de Mean, has been designed by the Belgian designer Eric Goffin. It was formed by joining together two aristocratic mansions dating from the 15th and 16th centuries, with one owned by the Counts of Mean.
To promote harmony and coherence between the two original mansions, the design has joined the two mansions by a seven-storied new building, in which many of the bedrooms are situated. The two mansions were built on the side of a hill, and had differences in height of nearly 30 metres.
Encouraging a smooth flow and circulation between the old and new parts of the hotel, the interior incorporates brightness and light. Fusing history and modernity, the newly renovated hotel features upgraded restaurants, business suites, ballroom and spa facilities for the enjoyment of the guests. The hotel combines modern design and historic architecture, offering aesthetics, inventiveness, comfort and relaxation in one place.
The renovation project also involved the upgradation of the flooring with carpets from the Dutch carpet manufacturer Desso. The Symphony carpet, a tufted carpet with a custom striped design from Desso has been used in the bedrooms of the hotel. The corridors feature Gravure P1100 printed carpet, the VIP lounge black luxury velvet carpet and the meeting room was fitted with Libra carpets. All the products were specified by the designer and add to the overall beauty and charm of the interior.
The hotel has been renovated according to the highest environmental standards and has adopted Cradle to Cradle design and manufacturing principles, which aim to create products that are either biodegradable or can be recycled to provide raw materials for new products.
