Culver’s Wisconsin restaurant gets LEED certification

Published: 15-Mar-2013

Culver’s restaurant on Linn Street in West Baraboo, Wisconsin has received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the US Green Building Council.

To achieve the certification, the new restaurant supplemented the electrical supply with solar panels, which also double as shades for the outdoor dining patio. The building also increased natural light through use of skylights and more glazing.

Fryer oil was recycled to fuel a hot water heater at the restaurant. The building also utilised high efficiency mechanical systems, conserved water with low flow plumbing fixtures, and harvested rainwater from roof.

In addition, the new restaurant was constructed with forest certified wood using recycled materials. Storm water was regulated through prairie planted detention areas which filter and minimise off site flow while heat island effect was reduced through both site and rooftop design.

The restaurant was opened in September 2011. The Culver's of West Baraboo is one of the nine restaurants owned by the Culver family with the rest 430 being franchise owned and operated.
