The new Chehalem Cultural Center features studios and classrooms to suit multiple purposes such as music, dance and theater arts. There are plans to construct a small cafe in the facility. The hallways' walls are adorned with paintings by teachers who will offer instruction in various artistic techniques.

According to Robin Anderson, executive director of the center, the objective behind the new center was to provide a quality program in a facility that is designed to offer a college atmosphere as well as the relaxed atmosphere of a social center. The center features wide windows to flood the interiors with natural sunlight.

In 1997, the Newberg School District sold the building to the Chehalem Parks and Recreation District for $1. The first phase of the renovation of 10,000 square feet on the first floor is complete, featuring glass and pottery studios, a kiln room, two art classrooms, small music practice rooms, a technology lab, a central gallery, a main entrance and office and meeting space. The renovation project has updated the plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems. Organizers have plans to renovate the facility’s 240-seat old theater, and may add a green room, dance studio, conference center, ballroom and kitchen.
