Renovation of the Gene and Jerry Jones Family Stadium was possible through a donation from Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. The stadium includes public restrooms, two team locker rooms, a field office, a concessions stand, press boxes, and seating for upward of 1,000 spectators.

Renovation has made the ESD’s synthetic turf football field at Gene and Jerry Jones Stadium safer, as there were some issues regarding its safety earlier. A testing done on 12 August 2010 brought to light the fact that three areas beneath the surface lacked the requisite amount of rubber padding. Due to this, the field was unable to absorb shock in accordance with guidelines prescribed by the American Society of Testing and Materials.

The stadium was constructed of prairie stone and brick, in order to fit in with the existing campus context. A paved plaza, connecting the stadium to the nearby Susan M. Frank Center for Arts and Humanities, created a landscaped pedestrian walkway. The press box roof has been designed in such a way that it provides shade for spectators, as well as an interesting visual.

The remodelled field was installed by Hellas Construction, the same group that constructed fields for Cowboys Stadium, Texas Tech and Baylor. Hellas completed the renovation project in a week’s time.
