Five firms shortlisted for new Atlanta Falcons stadium
Published: 31-Jan-2013
The Georgia World Congress Center Authority (GWCCA) has shortlisted five architectural firms for the proposed $1 billion stadium for Atlanta Falcons in Atlanta, US.
The five architectural firms chosen as finalists include Philadelphia-based EwingCole, Dallas-based HKS, Kansas City-based Populous, Atlanta-based tvsdesign (in partnership with Heery International and Gensler), and Kansas City-based 360 Architecture. All of these firms have been involved in high-profile sports and entertainment projects. These finalists were chosen from 10 applicants.
The chosen finalists will be asked to prepare proposals that include the first conceptual designs of the stadium. Interviews with the finalists will be scheduled in the next 30 days.
The new stadium is expected to span over 1.8 million square feet, and would seat up to 80,000 fans. It would be built to meet the standards of the NFL, the National Collegiate Athletic Association, Major League Soccer and the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).
The finalists were selected, based on their statements of qualifications, by a committee consisting of four representatives of the Falcons and four of the GWCCA. Funding for the project is still uncertain.
