The Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport in Florida, US is set to construct a new $16.4 million control tower.

The new control tower will substitute a 41-year old squat control tower. The old tower will be demolished. The new facility will encompass 12 floors as against the existing five-storey tower. It will measure 117 feet in height which is over double the size of the current tower.

The new tower will incorporate a contemporary tubular design. It will be equipped with a host of advanced aircraft-tracking systems such as latest radar, communications and weather technology. There will be creation of a tower cab spanning 525 square feet. In addition, a 7200 square feet base building covering a single level will be built in the southern part of the airport. The base building will consist of training rooms, administrative offices, as well as equipment rooms.

The new tower will receive over $9 million in federal grants and is due to complete construction by mid-2014.
