Funding approved for Governors Stadium renovation project

Published: 22-Feb-2013

The State Building Commission has approved an increase in funding of $900,000 for renovations to the 66-year-old Governors Stadium in Clarksville, Tennessee.

The entire home side of the stadium is scheduled to be dismantled by end of the 2013 football season and will be replaced with a new structure that would include 13 skyboxes and about 800 club-level seats apart from 5,000 regular seats. Additional renovations will be made to the visitors’ side. Scheduled to be completed in August 2014, the renovation would also include new field turf, home locker rooms, and a game day training space.

According to Mitch Robinson, vice president of finance and administration at Austin Peay State University, the additional funds were required to cover higher than expected construction costs and were provided by private gifts and a one-time plant fund investment.

The total expected cost of the project is revised to $16.9 million. The new structure is expected to be open for the 2014 season. The entire renovation is designed by Rufus Johnson Associates.

Governors Stadium is home to the Austin Peay State University Governors football team.
