Gainesville Regional Airport completes $1.3 million renovation project
The Gainesville Regional Airport (GNV) in Florida has completed its $1.3 million phase III renovation project.
The renovation project has added various features which are not only aesthetically pleasing, but also offer easier accessibility for passengers as well as energy efficiency.
All non-insulated store front glass has been replaced with energy-efficient glass. The airport’s main entryways have become vestibules to reduce the loss of air conditioning or heating. The curbside drop off, sidewalks and crosswalks have been redone with a unique pattern of coloured cement with curved lines.
All the exterior, pillar lighting at the airport was replaced with new, energy-efficient LED lighting. The whole space was redone with fresh paint, new benches and new landscaping to create a welcoming atmosphere for both residents and visitors to the community.
The new irrigation system has replaced the source from utility domestic water to well water. The airport also features new disabled parking areas and ramps to the sidewalk which were repaved at the front of the short term lot.
Phase III renovation project at Gainesville Regional Airport began in June 2012 while the final touches were completed in February 2013 with a construction cost of $1.3 million. The ribbon cutting ceremony was performed on 28 February. The ceremony also showcased initial concept drawings for future terminal expansion plans.
