Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport to receive extensive upgrades
Published: 30-Dec-2011
The Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport in South Carolina is set to undergo a $102 million makeover of its main terminal.
The project will be executed by Skanska USA and Moss & Associates joint venture. The existing main facility spans over an area of 220,000 square feet which will be left unaltered even after the overhaul.
The facade of the new terminal building will be equipped with several windows replacing large concrete columns. This will allow more natural light penetration, thereby reaping energy savings. The windows will also offer glimpses of the Upstate. The ticket lobby of the terminal will also be reconfigured as part of the project.
The security screening space will be centralised while a pair of separate checkpoints for Concourses A and B will be phased out. There will also be creation of new concessions, restrooms and various other facilities following the facelift. In addition, plans are on to create area for future expansion.
Most part of the project money will be financed through GSP whereas the airport will contribute about 30% of the project costs via the Airport Improvement Programme. Work is scheduled to commence by the end of 2012 and be completed within two to three years.
