GSU's Biological Sciences building construction progresses
Published: 06-Apr-2012
Work is underway on the new Biological Sciences building worth about $37 million at Georgia Southern University (GSU) in Georgia, US.
The 155,394 square feet building will consist of four parts which include Building or Wing A, Building or Wing B, the Fieldhouse, and the Greenhouse. The lobby will serve as a liaison between Building A and B. The Fieldhouse will comprise research area, a loading dock, as well as field equipment storage space. There will be no direct link between the Greenhouse and the main building.
The new property will house 10 teaching labs, 15 research labs, and 31 research areas. It will also feature a 125-seat lecture hall. Further, the building will incorporate various green features. It includes use of solar panels, water-saving fixtures, reclaimed materials, and locally-sourced materials. The facility will also sport a display which will show the amount of energy consumption.
The project is being financed by the state of Georgia over a three year period. The building is due for completion by June 2013.
