Kier completes new million Criminal Justice Centre in UK
Published: 25-Sep-2012
UK-based construction company Kier Construction has completed the construction of a new Pick Everard-designed Criminal Justice Centre (CJC) for the Northamptonshire Police in Northampton.
The new CJC has an area of 5,138 square metre, and replaces and upgrades cell facilities in Campbell Square in Weston Favell and Wellingborough police stations. The new facility is located in Northampton Business Park in Brackmills and offers 40-cells custody facility.
The purpose built facility meets the latest Home Office design guidance. The new CJC also offers scope for further addition of 20-cells to the existing facility. The project has also delivered more than 21,500 square feet of office space for police officers and staff.
The project has incorporated multitude of sustainable features, such as energy-efficient lighting, daylight dimming, resilient power and plant back up, zoned custody ventilation, close temperature controls and heat recovery.
The inclusion of the sustainable elements has assisted the facility to meet the standards of BREEAM 'Very Good' rating and brought about a reduction in energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions. The project incurred an investment of £9.5 million ($15.39 million). The centre is expected to be fully operational in September 2012.
