Kier Marriott starts work on sustainable chapel at UK crematorium

Published: 09-Feb-2010

Kier Marriott, a part of UK-based construction firm Kier Group, has started work on a new 145-seat sustainable chapel at Crownhill Crematorium, UK for Milton Keynes Council.

The 145-seat, GBP6.2 million ($9.8 million approx) chapel, which will sit alongside the existing 100-seat chapel, is designed to be a distinctive public building with state-of-the-art audio-visual facilities. The chapel will be incorporated with a number of innovative environmental elements.

Some features incorporated to enhance sustainability include natural ventilation units over the chapel, staff accommodation and waiting area. A ground source heat pump system, which uses excess heat to heat water in tanks and radiators, has been incorporated into the design along with intelligently controlled natural ventilation systems.

Kier Marriott is expecting to complete the project in March 2011.
