Kolkata's Eden Gardens stadium gets a new look for Cricket World Cup 2011

Published: 17-Jun-2009

Eden Gardens cricket stadium in Kolkata, a city in east India, is set to be refurbished with new features.

The Cricket Association of Bengal has awarded the two year project to the American design firm Burt Hill. In consortium with VMS, an Ahmedababd-based architectural firm, Burt hill will restructure the stadium.

Various infrastructural changes will be made in the stadium. Concrete seats will be replaced by plastic chairs; new shades will span the existing stands. A media box is to be added along with extra space to provide facilities for practice.

Renovation has been undertaken to meet the standards set by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the 2011 World Cup, which is to be hosted in India along with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

Based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Burt Hill has built a number of renowned university campuses and designed blueprint plans for urban townships in the US and the UAE.
