Liberty University opens new baseball stadium

Published: 06-Mar-2013

The new $9-million baseball stadium at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia has opened for its first game with construction at few areas still underway.

The new stadium has been built between Green Hall and the existing football stadium and soccer stadium. The design of the stadium has been influenced by several stadiums, including the ones at the University of Virginia and the University of South Carolina.

The new stadium more than doubles the seating capacity of the previous facility, with 2,500 chairback seats. It features two suites, a clubroom, state-of-the-art press area, a playground for children, picnic area, and a 3,000-square-foot patio with a fire pit. Locker rooms and dugouts have been upgraded for players. A notable element of the new stadium is the playing surface. The field is now Astro Turf, which requires less maintenance.

Though the stadium is fully operational, construction is scheduled to be completed in summer 2013.

It is part of Liberty’s major campus transformation, which includes significant upgrades to the university’s academic and athletic facilities. It is also the final phase of the Flames athletic complex, which features the newly renovated Osborne Stadium, the soccer/track & field complex, and the recently upgraded Williams Football Stadium.
