Margulies Perruzzi Architects to design Home Base Program facility in Massachusetts
Published: 05-Aug-2010
Massachusetts-based architecture and interior design firm Margulies Perruzzi has been selected to provide design services for the new Home Base Program facility at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH).
The Home Base Program is a partnership between the Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital, dedicated to improving the lives of veterans of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq who are affected by post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI).
Margulies Perruzzi Architects has been contracted to design 4,000 square feet of space at 101 Merrimac Street in Boston for the new program and related departments. In order to address the aesthetic needs and concerns of this unique client population, the architects will work in association with the MGH Planning & Construction Department and Home Base Program administrators.
The main objective of the project is to design an architecturally simple and welcoming facility that can create a pleasant ambiance for patients suffering from post-traumatic stress disorders and traumatic brain injuries. Architects have given special consideration in choosing the color, tone and the overall professional feel of the space.
Soft green hues have been selected for the facility, after consulting with veterans. The color will be a reflection of the military background. The main reception desk will feature actual baseball bats to create a distinct reference to the support of the Red Sox Foundation.
The new space for the Home Base Program will be designed to include clinical, family support, research and education programs. The project is expected to be completed by mid-2010. The program is executed in cooperation with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The Red Sox Foundation is the official team charity of the Boston Red Sox, focusing on serving the health, education, recreation, and social service needs of children and families in need across New England.
