MHA Lighting wins lighting upgrade contract at Manchester Airport

Published: 14-Feb-2011

MHA Lighting, the UK-based lighting solutions company has been awarded a contract to light up the Manchester Airport’s Terminal 2 & 3 car parks.

The company won the contract against various national lighting firms for the transformation of the car park fittings design at the UK’s fourth busiest airport.

MHA Lighting has created a retrofit option for the replacement of over 2,000, 80w bulbs with 30 and 40 Watt LED units in the two car parks at the airport. The move has been stated to reduce carbon emissions and cost of energy by approximately 60%.

The lighting upgrade is part of Manchester Airport’s environmental development plans.

The airport also completed a recent eight-month refurbishment project of the World Freight Terminal £1.5million ($2.4 million). As part of the external upgrade and improvement project the original World Freight Terminal (WFT) cladding – iconic red, white and black stripes as seen by millions of passengers since the WFT opened in November 1985 – replaced with a new ‘Nova Oyster’ Grey coloured over-cladding, matching the exterior of the airport’s three passenger terminals.

Part of the project also included upgrading insulation and replacement of existing roof lights to provide additional natural lighting within the WFT buildings, along with replacing rainwater pipes and relining the guttering.

Rooftop Solutions Limited is based at Wingates Industrial Park, Westhoughton in Bolton, Greater Manchester had carried out the upgrade project at the Manchester airport.
