Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium’s fourth phase renovation plans up for review

A proposal to include club seating to the upper east side of the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, US would be presented before the Annapolis Board of Appeals by the Naval Academy athletic director Chet Gladchuk.

As reported in Capital Gazette, the recent proposal is being termed as ‘phase four’ of the stadium’s renovation. The new proposal seeks to redevelop existing seating on the upper concourse of the Rowe Boulevard, or “Gold” side, of the stadium and provide new enclosed suites for its patrons. The renovation would also include the installation of a high-definition video scoreboard in the end zones, a media centre for post-game interviews and locker room upgrades.
Speaking to The Capital, Chet Gladchuk, director of Naval Academy, commented that these renovations would decrease the overall occupancy, or seating, of the stadium.
With the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium being recently rezoned from a residential property (R2) to a stadium property, any proposed changes to the property must be submitted to the Annapolis City Department of Planning and approved by the Board of Appeals.
Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium had undergone various renovations in the past. Dedicated on 26 September 1959, the stadium was transformed into a multi-use facility from 2002-2005. In 2010, four luxury boxes, a television booth and camera locations were constructed on the upper east side.
The luxury boxes and club seating area would be used for fundraising purposes and to seat major donors, according to Gladchuk.
Other phase four projects include installation of new, high-definition video scoreboards in the end zones, addition of a media center for post-game interviews and upgrades to the home locker room, which was last renovated in 1995.
