New Dewey Short Visitor Centre opens doors
Published: 30-Apr-2012
The new $10 million Dewey Short Visitor Centre at Table Rock Lake at 4600 State Highway 165, Branson, Missouri, US has opened doors.
The new facility substitutes the 1975-built old centre. It spans 15,000 square feet which is nearly twice the size of the former building. The facility also comprises 1,000 feet of outside deck space. The new visitor centre features exhibit space encompassing 4,000 square feet, a native garden, a 75-seat theatre, a gift shop. It also houses an educational area with a mixed-use room and wet lab, as well as administrative office area.
The LEED Gold-certified facility employs various green measures. Presence of large windows along with the building's position optimise natural light circulation. The lights and appliances installed in the facility run low on energy usage.
The building has been equipped with low-flow fixtures which reduce its water usage. It has a water system which makes use of storm water run-off. The facility also sports recycling receptacles throughout. Other sustainable features include use of stained concrete flooring, reclaimed and locally-sourced building materials, and native plants.
The project has been largely financed with stimulus funds.
