Neyland Stadium in Tennessee prepares to unveil rejuvenated look

The ongoing renovation of Neyland Stadium, which is owned by the State of Tennessee and operated by University of Tennessee, has made use of about 680,000 bricks to offer a fresh look to the aged facility. The new brickwork and fresh entrance has provided the stadium a unique architectural look. A major part of the brick has been used for building the new ‘grand entrance’ outside gate 21.

The idea to incorporate brick-design has been adopted to complement the current Tennessee campus, and is influenced by the design of other stadium structures. The brick work helps in offering a great traditional collegiate feel.

A new plaza has been created at Gate 21, and large murals of former Vol legends, such as General Neyland and Reggie White are also depicted. A text messaging system has also been introduced as part of this makeover project. If a fan encounters a problem, he can text message and will then receive an automatic reply message acknowledging receipt of the message.

There are plans to install a twice the life-size statue of General Neyland, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2010. The current phase of renovation project is on track to reach completion before 4 September 2010.
