Noida to get new sports stadium

Published: 28-Feb-2013

Noida in northern India will soon get a new mini sports stadium in the Sarfabad region as per latest approvals from the Noida Authority.

The stadium will be spread over 2.5 acres in Sarfabad. It will offer facilities for athletic events as well as several indoor games such as volley ball, basket ball, table tennis, billiards and martial arts such as judo, karate and tae-kwon-do.

The stadium will feature five pitches and is expected to accommodate upto 20, 000 spectators. As per reports, the stadium will also provide training facilities for wrestling.

The planning and design for the stadium is already completed. The renovation work is to be carried out in three stages at a cost of INR70 crore ($12.9 million). It is expected to be complete by December 2013.

The stadium works were earlier stopped after the district forest department rejected permission for cutting trees. Now, officials of Noida Authority have agreed on the security payment and re-plantation with the forest department. To begin the upgrading work, the authority needs to clear around 300 saplings and shrubs apart from cutting several fully grown trees.
