North Metro Fire Rescue District's new headquarters receives LEED Gold

Published: 27-Jan-2012

The new headquarters of North Metro Fire Rescue District in Broomfield, Colorado, has bagged LEED Gold certification from the US Green Building Council.

The North Metro Fire Rescue District spans 64 square miles across the city and county of Broomfield, the city of Northglenn and unincorporated areas of Boulder, Adams and Jefferson counties. The new facility incorporates a host of green features. Its design optimises natural light penetration, thereby reaping energy cost cuts.

The building, featuring a glass entrance, has also been designed to offer maximum glimpses of the outdoor area. The roof of the building has been equipped with photovoltaic panels which generate energy to meet water heating and electricity needs. This renewable energy source further leads to energy savings of 5.62%.

The facility incorporates native plants in landscaping which slash water maintenance requirements by 56.4% compared to a standard office. Use of reclaimed materials, and employing light pollution reduction measures add to its sustainability.
