Osram displays LED components at Hong Kong International Lighting Fair

Published: 10-Nov-2009

Osram Opto Semiconductors, manufacturers of optoelectronic semiconductors for the lighting, sensor and visualization sectors, participated in the Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (HK Lighting Fair) 2009, held in China from October 27-30, 2009.

HK Lighting Fair is one of the largest lighting shows in Asia, featuring over 1,700 exhibitors from over 30 countries and regions. Osram showcased products ranging from LED components to LED luminaries for commercial and consumer markets.

OSRAM Opto Semiconductors demonstrated two new LED components, Golden Dragon Oval Plus and Oslon SSL. Golden DRAGON Oval Plus LED is specifically designed for street lighting. With its oval beam characteristics and integrated long-life silicone lens, it is designed to meet the unique requirements for energy-efficient street illumination and minimal light pollution.

Oslon SSL with package size of 3 x 3mm is one of the world’s smallest LEDs in the 1W sector. It can handle high current efficiently due to its excellent thermal management. All these attributes enable lighting fixture designers to have flexibility to create energy-efficient and cost saving lighting solutions. The ideal applications include spotlights, desk lights and ceiling floodlights.

Another highlight of the Osram display was the desktop OLED luminaire ‘Shamrock’, which is available with 15 pieces of OLEDs and dimming feature. This prototype proves that Osram is not only developing light source for future lighting, but also for ‘the future of future lighting’, as the company puts it.

Other than exhibition, experts from OSRAM also delivered two speeches during the fair, including ‘Innovations and New Applications in Solid State Lighting’ by Dr Bernhard Stapp and ‘LED Adoption, Technology & SSL Applications’ by Samuel Fok.

Headquartered in Germany, Osram is a subsidiary of Siemens AG. Osram is one of the world's largest makers of lighting products and makes lamps- including Sylvania and OSRAM-branded products - for consumer and commercial uses, as well as for film photography.
