The project has been designed and developed through a collaboration between CW Driver and Ferguson, Pape Baldwin Architects, and Manuel Oncina Architects. The facility, spanning 21,000 square feet, incorporates several sustainable features. It is equipped with three solar panels which generate almost 20% of the energy required by the building. The rate of energy usage and production can also be monitored by the patrons on a digital display positioned in the library's interior.
The structure features various measures to reduce the amount of energy consumed by its air conditioning and heating units. It includes installation of a heat repelling roof and use of building materials and windows with insulation properties.
The bathrooms of the facility are equipped with low-flow plumbing fixtures which use about 40% less water as against the established industry codes in California. The landscaping of the library has the capacity to withstand droughts and uses less water to meet irrigational purposes. Other green features of the facility include use of reclaimed concrete with the construction materials procured through local sources.
