Published: 12-Mar-2010
Happy Hollow Park & Zoo in San Jose, US is undergoing a $72 million green renovation, which will upgrade the 12.5 acres of existing ride areas and zoo, and add four acres to the site.
The renovation included repainting the magical green dragon, replacing the old motor with a quiet battery, several new animal exhibits, a new veterinary and commissary buildings, an education center, guest services and gift shop, restaurant, new parking lot and pedestrian bridge. The Keep Around Carousel, which includes endangered animals, and the Redwood Lookout play area, which is modeled after a ranger lookout station, is added to the park.
The additions to the park also include an exhibit where visitors can watch bees at work. All around the park, there are new buildings designed with the environment in mind, like one made with hay for insulation.
The Park closed its doors on July 9, 2008, to undergo renovation as part of the Measure P Safe Neighborhood Parks and Recreation bond measure approved by voters in 2000.
