Renovation underway for Reece Museum in Tennessee

Published: 21-Feb-2013

Renovation work is underway for the B. Carroll Reece Museum at East Tennessee State University (ETSU) in Tennessee, US which costs $1.7 million.

Upon completion, the renovated museum will feature an updated database and a new HVAC system to preserve the collections and the artifacts and paintings, which need a regulated temperature and humid environment.

Additionally, the building will feature upgraded electrical system with new lighting schemes. A new security system with video technology will also be added to provide safety to the people.

The bathrooms of the museum are compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act requirements. The museum has also installed new energy-efficient window systems to prevent ultraviolet light from coming in. These windows also allow for better preservation of the artifacts. An elevator has also been installed.

During the renovation the entire 20,000 artifact collection and office operations have been moved to the school's Valleybrook Campus in Sullivan County.

The Reece Museum has been on campus since the 1920s. In 1965 it was renovated and converted into a place to hold the late 1st District Congressman B. Carroll Reece's memorabilia and an art collection. The museum is scheduled to open to the public on 23 April 2013.
