Shanghai Pudong International Airport to begin renovation of Terminal 1

Published: 20-Mar-2013

Shanghai Pudong International Airport is planning to begin renovation of its Terminal 1 in 2013 with an investment of JPY1.2 billion ($192.9 million).

The renovation, which includes expansion of the facility and upgrades to the luggage system, will increase the capacity of the terminal from 20 million to more than 36.8 million passengers per annum. The project will also help China Eastern Airlines to become the largest occupant of the terminal.

As part of the revamp, Terminal 1 will be expanded by one floor to reach seven floors. Various new areas will be added to make it easier and faster for passengers to change planes. In addition, new waiting lounges will also be added.

The airport renovation is part of the 88 construction projects undertaken by Shanghai in 2013 with an investment of JPY119.3 billion ($119.05 million). The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2014.
