Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to receive $1.2 billion makeover
Published: 12-Jan-2012
State-owned airport operator Angkasa Pura II has announced plans for a IDR11 trillion ($1.2 billion) makeover of the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Indonesia.
The project will include overhaul of the airport's current runways 1 and 2 and construction of runways 3 and 4. The two present runways will feature a taxiway and an aircraft parking area with a capacity of 174 following the facelift. The aircraft movement in these runways will also be raised from 52 to 62 an hour. A pair of new runways will be built on the airport's northern portion. The new runways will help enhance aircraft movement from 52 to 62 an hour.
Work will further involve rehabilitation of terminals 1 and 2, as well as development of Terminal 3, a cargo terminal, and a host of other supporting amenities. There will also be creation of a building which will serve as a liaison between terminals 1, 2 and 3.
The design of the revamped facility will imbibe a conventional Indonesian style while sporting various contemporary facilities. The look of the new terminal roofs will replicate traditional Toraja houses which will be complemented by interiors adorned with Balinese paintings and decor.
