Sun Flower – a solar-powered streetlamp from Danish designers

Published: 03-Aug-2010

Danish product designers Michel Riss and Jens Rosbjerg have introduced ‘Sun Flower’ - a new sustainable street lighting system powered by solar energy and inspired by the shape of sunflower.

Michel Riss and Jens Rosbjerg have incorporated photovoltaic panels into streetlamps, utilizing the location of the lamps, which are under the sun most of the time.

With this concept in mind, they have designed the solar-powered streetlamp named, Sun Flower. The lamp is integrated with high-intensity 56W LED lamps that release white light. These street lamps are designed to have an average lifetime of 50,000 hours.

The solar panels in the lamp harness sunlight to generate electricity, which is then stored in a battery to power the lights after dark. The lamp also features a built-in daylight sensor that automatically controls the on or off function.
