The Rafayel opens in London

Published: 09-Feb-2010

The Rafayel, an environmentally-friendly hotel, has opened in Battersea on the left bank in London.

The hotel has been built with the intention to reduce each guest’s carbon footprint and also hopes to incorporate ‘affordable luxury’ and the ethos of ‘living at peace with nature’ for all those staying in its rooms 65 bedrooms.

The bedrooms at the hotel have been designed to be large, with the biggest measuring over 210 square meters. All rooms have full-length glass windows that let in the daylight, as well as provide the city’s view.

The bathrooms feature body-spray showers. The bathrooms in the larger rooms also have hydrotherapy baths. The hotel also practices rain water harvesting, by which the hotel is able to produce 6,000 liters of rain water each day. The rain water is used to nurture thousands of plants on the grounds of the hotel and it is also fed into the fountain that recycles the water. Eventually the hotel hopes to increase its rain harvesting capacity to 10,000 liters a day.

The hotel follows a ‘no plastic’ policy and LED lighting in order to reduce the green house gas emissions. The lighting program will also reduce overall electrical costs by 80% annually.

The hotel features a spa and has a range of bars and restaurants including a brasserie, bakery and afternoon tea lounge. The Banyan on the Thames restaurant offers a healthy all day menu and the Left Bank Brasserie is a place for casual dining.
