W San Francisco unveils renovated spaces

Published: 14-Oct-2011

The W San Francisco hotel in California, US has reopened following a renovation project.

The project, designed by San Francisco-based interior designer and architect Stanley Saitowitz of Natoma Architects, involved overhaul of the facility's Welcome Desk, Living Room, Living Room Bar and Upstairs Bar, and the TRACE restaurant.

The facility's Rotunda now features graphic grid woven vinyl flooring. The walls are covered with grid motif with the ceiling featuring a pixilated design. The seating arrangements installed in the space don a modular pattern and rise from the floor like buildings. The furniture pieces in different lounge areas have been customised into different styles while their tones are reflective of the conversion of day into night.

The Welcome Desk of the hotel now features a massive 3-D map. The look is complemented by creative pieces suspended above the desk which depicts nocturnal San Francisco scenes comprising streets and notable buildings highlighted in light patterns. The space also consists of check-in pods with backlit wooden panels in bold tones.

The revamped Living Room & Living Room Bar comprises a pixilated vinyl lamination on the glass windows. The wall of the room imbibes dark fog-like designs. The living room is framed by wooden lattice-work screens set against a backdrop of a spectrum in shades of bright pinks, blues and purples. The hues, reflective of the 1960 San Francisco psychedelic movement, are repeated in the room's pillows and accessories. The nightime flavour of the living room is created with the use of blurred ikat prints, a hazy graphic language, marbled Victorian serveware, objects donning a mushroom shape and twisted smoke motifs. A long gas fireplace set against a mirror-studded wall accentuates the look along with hues of metallics, fuchsias, blues, and purples.

The hotel's TRACE restaurant has been fitted with grid flooring in gray shade following the facelift. The upgraded restaurant also features quartz tabletops and chairs in leather upholstery comprising a clean geometric style in white tones. The dining area of the facility features a high ceiling. Among the other features of the remodelled restaurant are tabletop vases by Sausalito's Heath Ceramics, recycled wood menus from Bay Area-based artisan Luke Bartels, and BottleHood's water tumblers made from reclaimed wine bottles.

A staircase leads to the bar upstairs from the restaurant. The bar dons lighter tones and patterned mirrored walls. Use of wood panels and white-coloured walls with accents of pink, purple and blue back-painting add to the aesthetics. The ceiling of the redesigned bar is covered with mesh fabric and features soft lighting. The space is also equipped with ball chain curtains, perforated leather upholstery, metal studs, faux fur and leathers.
