West Suffolk Hospital opens new EAU

Published: 09-Feb-2012

West Suffolk Hospital in Suffolk, UK has opened a new emergency assessment unit (EAU) after an £800,000 ($1,262,910) facelift.

The project has renovated and transformed the hospital's ward F8 into the EAU. The ward has been equipped with new windows. The toilet and wet room areas have also been substituted following the makeover. It now also dons contrasting finishes to decrease confusion and falls in dementia affected patients.

The EAU sports 17 beds with 12 incorporated in two bays and three in side rooms. Another two beds of the unit are high dependency beds and are housed in close proximity to the nurse’s station. The facility comprises two more bays featuring three trolleys and an assessment couch.

All the bed areas have been fitted with medical gas and suction via a piped system, along with call bells and power lines. The unit has also installed a telemetry system to facilitate monitoring of cardiac patients remotely with a screen in the coronary care wing. In addition, the location of the EAU directly above A&E eases patient transfer between the departments.
