Weston Town Hall upgrades topped out
Published: 20-Jan-2012
The £9.7 million ($14.9 million) renovation of the Town Hall in Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset, UK has been topped out.
The project will cut down the facility's floor area by half its existing space by decreasing the number of buildings from the existing 18 to two. The facility will be equipped with a new roof comprising photovoltaic panels following the makeover. The new roof is expected to slash carbon footprint by 61%.
The hall will now incorporate a new facility positioned below an internal atrium in the building's ground level. A new ramp and entryway located on Walliscote Grove Road will offer direct access to this facility. The revamped ground floor will also accommodate the relocated Weston Library, HomeChoice, Revenue and Benefits, housing enquiries, as well as other public services.
The building will sport dedicated sections for children and young people, along with a larger local studies space following the makeover. It will now don 34 public computers, payment kiosks and self-service units. The upper stories of the building too, will undergo an overhaul to create office space for about 950 which is a rise of 50% over its previous capacity.
The building upgrades will also decrease property maintenance and energy expenses. These cost cuts along with rental income from partners is slated to provide annual savings of £700,000 ($1,075,720) by 2015/16.
