Published: 04-Jan-2013

Wirtz Beverage Illinois’ project, a new 605,000 square foot corporate headquarters located at Cicero, Illinois designed by Ware Malcomb has been completed.

The new state-of-the-art facility, also known as WBI Center, consolidates four Wirtz Beverage locations into one hub for sales, distribution, and training programs. Ware Malcomb gave interior design services to Wirtz Realty Group for the project that integrates offices, conference centres, training facilities with warehouse and distribution areas.

The facility’s new warehouse and distribution centre has a capacity of 2.5

million cases of wine and spirits. It is spread over 25,000-square foot and features temperature-controlled wine storage component, which is one of the

largest in the country.

There are 39 shipping and receiving bays connected to a computerised conveyor system that sorts and moves up to 10,000 cases per hour for delivery which will dramatically increase operating efficiencies for Wirtz Beverage Illinois.

The conference center’s large training space can hold 750 people. It can also be divided into three- to five-room configurations for smaller training sessions. The facility also includes two stories of corporate offices, a full-size employee gym, and a company cafeteria.

The project incorporates technological facilities like digital signage screens that are embedded in hallway floors and lobby areas. The warehouse is spread over 500,000 square foot and contains one of the largest temperature-controlled wine storage components in the country. The building’s shell, and its utility systems is the high-tech Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS) with high bay robotic picking.

The general contractor for the project was Ryan Companies US, Inc.
