Wynkoop office building in Denver wins ENERGY STAR label

Published: 20-Dec-2010

1515 Wynkoop - a premier eight-storey office building in Denver, Colorado, designed by Hartman-Cox Architects - has received the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR label.

The 267,833 square feet Wynkoop office building, developed by the Denver office of international real estate firm Hines, was certified LEED-Gold for Core & Shell in 2009. The exterior of 1515 Wynkoop is clad in brick and glass, in keeping with the historical tradition of its neighbouring structures. In order to maximise natural light in tenant spaces, the building contains full-height windows and 9ft 4-inch finished ceiling heights, a first for Denver’s CBD.

The building also features a grand lobby entrance directly off of Wynkoop; 27, 387 square feet of retail space on the first level; more than 10,000 square feet of outdoor terrace space spread across various levels of the building; and 415 below-grade parking spaces. Large, flexible floor plates ranging from 27,000 square feet to 48,000 square feet allow for efficient space planning.

With an ENERGY STAR rating of 98, 1515 Wynkoop is in the top three percent of office buildings nationwide in terms of energy performance. It is 53% more energy-efficient and saves $1.29 in energy costs per square feet annually when compared to the national average office building. This translates to estimated annual greenhouse gas reductions equivalent to removing 680 passenger vehicles from the road.

Sustainable features and programmes include: full-building lighting control; active occupancy; full-building recycling program; and Hines’ GREEN OFFICE for Tenants programme, designed to enhance tenant space.

1515 Wynkoop is leased to a roster of tenants that includes Van Gilder Insurance Corporation, Policy Studies Inc. and Polsinelli Shughart law firm.
